2021-10-14 Meeting Minutes - Drivetrain
Goals
- Get initial feedback on first draft CADs
CAD Spins
Chassis
Notes:
- Current mass: 7.5 kg
- Consider where to switch to a clamping mount around the CF tube instead of adhesive bonding
- Consider where to bond to the outside of the tube VS the inside
- Fear of inner mounts puncturing CF tube (i.e. at base of vertical CF stand)
- Simplify mounting blocks to require less complex boring
- Look for OTS clamp for rocker beam
- Believe we're okay without a cross beam → aluminum surface plates should increase stiffness and resist torsional loads
- Consider Gimbal routing low priority
- Going forward with CF chassis...if we hit a dead end, can swap to aluminum extrusion
Suspension/Legs
Notes:
- Current mass: 1.1 kg
- Don't use bolts for alignment, use just for clamping. Use steps and dowel holes to align critical pieces
- Consider reamer sizes for fits needed VS boring bar
- Move the bogie in-line with the rocker
- Upper rocker acts as a hardstop
- Consider stiffening bogie joint structure → make more like a clevis pin where you have one solid structure
- Add differential mounting
- Vertically down from the rocker pivot point
- Using bearings on all joints instead of bushing as they are better at handling loads
Wheel connections
Notes:
- Consider taking off NEMA plate on motor
- Download the actual motor CAD lmao
- Want to get ID of tire without hub
Differential bar
Notes:
- Look into more adjustable eye joint linkage configurations
- Use heat-sink inserts

Other Notes
- Welded joints analysis → Andrew
- Rotational ability on CF beam, if we want to use for rocker beam
- Could add a steel sleeve to integrate into bushing? More work?
- Review limits and fits (ISO), CAD naming scheme
- Future of Automotive Body & Chassis, Steering, Suspension & Braking seminar, ~45 minute digital meeting
