2021-08-31 Meeting Minutes - Frameless Motor

  • Maybe do "master modeling" to design the motor
  • Fasten the lid
  • Bond the rotor to the shaft
  • talk to an applications engineer from the supplier to get mounting recommendations
  • Encoder placed off the back end of the shaft - magnetic on-axis encoder (RLS, MPS)
  • 3 bearings, not 2. You can find some decent quality bearings that are cheap
  • No need to take into account heat dissipation
  • Minimum tolerance of 1 thou before people start to hate you
  • Estimated cost of 2-3 grand
  • Have the wires escape at a portion of the joint that does not see much movement
  • Try to do everything with clocksprings or cabling
  • Aluminum for housing
  • Looking at 12V/24V/48V motors, get the ones we can get the fastest (what's available to us)
