Maybe do "master modeling" to design the motor
Fasten the lid
Bond the rotor to the shaft
talk to an applications engineer from the supplier to get mounting recommendations
Encoder placed off the back end of the shaft - magnetic on-axis encoder (RLS, MPS)
3 bearings, not 2. You can find some decent quality bearings that are cheap
No need to take into account heat dissipation
Minimum tolerance of 1 thou before people start to hate you
Estimated cost of 2-3 grand
Have the wires escape at a portion of the joint that does not see much movement
Try to do everything with clocksprings or cabling
Aluminum for housing
Looking at 12V/24V/48V motors, get the ones we can get the fastest (what's available to us)
