  • Project Updates
  • New tasks

Update & Action Items

MemberUpdateAction Items
Asha ME, Emily A, Rehnuma (Science)
  • Nothing new to report, can't add new components cause of lockdown

Mathieu H, Austin, Rehnuma (Arm)
  • Wrist issue has more or less been diagnosed (looks like we may be able to get away with light machining fixes to adjust fit)
  • Wrist disassembled and fixes are in progress

  • 3d print for wrist cam and tooling bit will be adjusted soon (sry)

Jasmine M, Austin, Ethan (E-box)
  • Printing stuff
  • Dumped project info in confluence

Haseeb (LED board mount, Encoder mounts design for drivetrain)
  • Need to print
  • Finished CAD, need to print

Austin (SW Toolbox)
  • Smart Fastener Demo
  • Toolbox Guide
  • All the hardware we could ever need, proper BOM and cleaner CAD trees :]
  • Sponsor packages sent already

Ethan (CAD Cleanup)
  • Do not mate to a patterned component
  • Watch out for circular references
  • Documentation on new standards
      • New standards will be in Google drive > Mechanical > CAD protocols (for now)
  • To do:
    • new naming scheme
    • Setup file properties
    • Build tests (via solidworks macros)
    • New file templates
    • Appearances? Missing Sizes?
    • Setup config standard (old configs always get messed up)
    • verified/reviewed metadata tag?
    • Improve training
    • Document everything… (move to confluence)
    • SW Toolbox for all fasteners bearings bushings -> migrate OTS components to the toolbox
  • Hey ethan its austin, think we should ask about cleaning (deleting lol, or zip filing at minimum) the archive to save space?

Asha
  • Ansys? -> Tony sent me the contact info of our connection - Mathieu

General Notes

General Updates

New Season Workflow

  • It's time to decide how we're going to approach the new design season
  • Current plan: entire mech team designs 2 subsystems at a time
    • More effective for meeting EE/SW/FW deadlines
    • Generate the general plan for the entire rover, but only deeply design 2 systems at a time
    • The feasibility of this plan is determined by the number of available designers
  • Anyone can contribute to designs, the amount of responsibility you take on depends on your availability
  • Everyone in a mechanism group will contribute to problem definition and research, then subtasks can be delegated
  • Frequent mechanism group communication is necessary
  • Don't forget about documentation! We want to remember how well this works for us

Availability

Enter your expected availability for the spring term. We won't enforce these numbers or deprive you of opportunities because of them! They are just for planning.

Project Assignment

  • For next week: research subsystem requirements (arm, drive train, science, gimbal, base station)

Test Rigs

  • Starting this year we will be developing test rigs to test components of our rover
  • Testing can occur at all levels from individual motors to entire assemblies
  • We need to develop a list of criteria for a passed test, a test procedure, and a fixture that performs the test
  • Fixtures shouldn't be intense design work. All they need to do is make sure a component meets our requirements
