Redesigning shovel to be two claws

Science:

  • Continue shovel redesign

E-box:

  • Integrate new PCBs, connectors, Does the e-box need to be made out of metal? Can we save weight by making it acrylic?

  • Simulate cooling (liquid? Air? heatsinks?) for power distribution board

General Notes

  • Bay closed for foreseeable future due to COVID

  • Want to start using ANSYS and SW PDM

Planned Projects

  • Continuing science module development (probably most important)

  • 3 D.O.F., continuous pan, self-stabilizing gimbal (generic cool mech project)

  • Replacing 12v DC with 24v DC (possibly brushless) motors (reserved for masochists)

  • Sexy wire, control and driver PCB management (mech x ee = best ship)

  • Fixing base station (bringing big guns with FEA)

  • Robot Arm mods (camera mounting, modeling backlash / make unified calc)

  • New drivetrain

 Science

  • Sealing mechanism currently unreliable (not properly tested)

  • Hooks for lifting seal cause binding because they only lift from one side

  • Elevator currently doesn’t go down all the way (due to CAD oversight)

  • Shovel being redesigned to be two claws (David Choi)

  • Indexing limit switches are kinda sketchy (but may be due to print quality)

  • Elevator limit switches don’t always contact properly

  • Elevator CF spring might not be necessary?

  • Probably want to switch motors to brushless

Gimbal

  • Missouri has it, ask them how theirs work?
