2022-04-28 - Mech Leads Meeting Minutes

Goals

  • Recap the term, how things went

General Notes

Sub-team Related

  • Focus on the organization & standardization of parts in the Bay
  • Invite people to just walk them through troubleshooting, where to find things in the Bay, what their resources are
    • Partner up less experienced members with more experienced members
  • More work sessions, across subteams (smile)
  • More in-person support period → back to more work sessions! (mech specifically)
  • Partner up people working on smaller projects
  • Have people first work on something and then give them responsibilities when possible

Technical

  • KNOW OUR SCOPE/WHAT ARE OUR TRUE GOALS
  • More emphasis on leads worrying about big-picture stuff, emphasis on the role of reviewing design when everyone else is focused on ultra-specific details
    • More of an ideal, requires very technically capable people who aren't preoccupied with designing other stuff
  • Emphasis on making things work
    • Pre-assemble subsystems whenever possible
      • Helps locate missing parts, see what doesn't collide
  • Emphasis on detailed CAD
    • Working with accurate models
    • Design with tolerance
    • Emphasis on making CAD work BEFORE manufacturing anything, really
  • Emphasis on critical reviewing
    • (Constructively) roast the details
    • Careful not to completely dunk on people
    • Goal is to have a team that you can rely on for a second look
  • Any future design decisions should be backed by data
    • SOME kind of prototyping, doesn't have to be quantitative, qualitative are pretty powerful
    • Test as much as possible with what we have
  • Documentation is good
    • Machining tracker and purchase history was blessed
