Date: Sunday September 17th, 8:30 PM ET |
Attendance: Anna (Business)
Caleb (Team) Cindy (Firmware)
Clare (Science) Ethan (Mechanical) Farris (Electrical) Grace (Science)
Orson (Software) |
Topic 1: Admin Stuff - Got access to emails, website, etc.
- 1 month of 1st years asking how to join/sign up (sub teams might be seeing more members)
- Welding, Graeme suggests not to do it unless we REALLY need to
- Merch, where to get it (Anna looking into previous T-shirt store location)
- Extra: Melvin will be bringing new members into the bay tomorrow to test out the gimbal
Power Supply (Professor Teerstra holding it up, need to arrange a CSA inspection)- We are now officially registered!!!
- Attempted theft in the SDC
- Mars Society of Canada's University Rover Team Membership Program Contacted us, anyone interested?
|
Topic 2: Goals that each sub-team lead wants to accomplish this term - Caleb: Do what I can to get each subsystem ready for SAR. Become a better leader through practice as team lead. Learn more about each subsystem. Help leads be better leads and new members integrate into the robotics team.
- Ethan: Build the rover so it's all done, meet the timelines, every member on mech team has something meaningful to work on
- Orson: Trying to get the major infra setup for controlling the robot. Drivetrain is biggest thing, next is arm. Then science. Lots of new members currently doing training. Getting new members past the learning curve of ROS.
- Farris: Two major goals. 1, pay forward knowledge from design team (electrical design experience, do things you can't do in class, like hands on stuff, give that to the new members), 2, get proper hardware co-op job.
- Clare: Grow network within the science faculty, (new members from the science faculty), use connections, maybe with profs for team's benefit
- Cindy: Finish development for most of our 2022 firmware. Provide mentorship and bring new members up to speed with tasks so that we can have a productive SAR.

Topic 3: General Meetings - Basically just have a chance for everyone to get a quick update on what the other sub teams are up to. It will essentially be a run down of what we have here in the leads meetings, but a bit more generalized.
- Let me know if there's anything you want to add into the meeting.
- Games (not sure what yet, kahoot, scriblio, amongus)

Topic 4: Sub-team Updates - Mechanical
- Bug Ethan about science
Push deadlines closer? (burnout risk)- Science is sorted (Ali and Ethan know what they're designing)
- Elevators, vacuum systems, sensors, cameras (3 cameras?)
- Let Cindy + Orson know camera amounts
- Some dongle to combine camera feeds into one?
- Encoders still a W.I.P
- Probably having Pololu motors everywhere, and some servos
- Austin and Emily picked actuators
- All actuators have been purchased (Austin dealing with YEP program)
- Going back and forth with Gleeson
- Electrical
- Wolfgang and a new member Ivan on Science board
- Based on mechanism from Ethan
- Gimbal board, schematic should be done soon, then onto layout
- PDB pushed back another week
- BMS (battery management system), measure charge, temp, board can charge/discharge the battery: progress being made, schematic should be wrapped up asap for firmware team
- All the juice does not pass through this board
- Wiring diagram can be done later (December)
- Find things for new members to do
- Started with multiphase buck converter, step down to 24V
- 2/3 weeks to get schematic volts
- Two 24 to 48 converters working out of phase with one another, they keep switching (control frequency and phase, reduce current, maximize efficiency)
- Firmware
- Distributing tasks to new members
- Began setting up 2022 repo infrastructure to unblock members on tasks
- Science
- Onboarding new members over reading week
- Planning and scheduling out the science plan, how we're going to get that done, reach out to professional geologists and members in the science faculty
- 8 new members
- Business
- Working on the WEEF and deans list proposals
- Software
- Looking to have drivetrain code done by the end of October so Melvin can start testing on campus. Month of November dedicated to arm up and running.
- Ali wants to do controls (according to Ethan, Ali's in Mech, but doing some software things)
- Add to the GANTT chart

Next leads meeting: - Next meeting we should be discussing PDR
