Prerequisites

This page provides prerequisites information.

Staff that use physical 2FA fobs (like Yubikey), should ensure that they have an alternative form of approval set up. Such as the Duo Mobile app.

  • MacOS device with minimum OS level of 12.0 (Monterey)

    • Devices able to reach the current supported MacOS are recommended

    • Devices using third-party tools to bypass Apple’s MacOS compatibility standards may not be supported and/or incur issues during regular MacOS update releases

  • Enrollment completed by the Primary User of the device

    • For shared devices, select 1 person to complete the enrollment

Prerequisites – Existing and COPE device enrollments

  • The current account must be an administrator

  • Ensure OneDrive files are synching

  • Ensure any data on the hard drive is backed up

  • Let your IST Account Rep know if there is any older required software that will not run with the current MacOS version

  • Note any non-standard required software (and backup any license keys, etc.) that may be needed (in case it needs to be reinstalled)

  • Recommended: remove any old accounts on Mac that are no longer being used

  • Device is unbound from Active Directory

Prerequisites – Reimage Devices only

·         Perform an Erase All Content and Settings on the device. Erase your Mac and reset it to factory settings - Apple Support

·         Else ensure the hard drive is properly erased. Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Prerequisites – COPE Only

  • The MacOS device was purchased through a non-affiliated third-party and is not in the University of Waterloo Apple School Manager program

    • Devices that are registered with Apple School Manager may fail these enrollment steps. Please refer to the non-COPE instructions.
