Recommended Computer Specifications for Online Learning

When you buy a computer, it is important to consider some specifications of the computer. Lower price usually implies bad quality, and thus taking a look at specifications is important.

Step-by-step guide

  1. RAM Size: RAM size is recommended to be at least 8 GB. If you are a programmer, your RAM should be at least 12 GB. Your computer will crash if you have too many IDEs open or if you are running a virtual machine.
  2. Memory: make sure that your memory includes at least some sort of solid-state drive (SSD). A lot of computers nowadays still contain only hard drive (HDD); HDD will decay over time and your computer will slow down to an unusable extent after 3-5 years. As for the actual size, the more, the better.
  3. Processor: Intel Core-i5 and above or AMD Ryzen.
  4. Screen size: this is your personal preference but keep in mind that for general laptops, the largest size you can get nowadays is 17.3'', instead of 15.6''
  5. Weight: make note of the computer's net weight; heavy weight does not imply good quality.
