Sending a fax
IST provides a fax service for faculty and staff to send and receive faxes without having a dedicated fax phone line.
Sending faxes through email
Send a fax with the central fax service using your University of Waterloo email
6<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca (where <fax number> is the actual fax number) e.g. 65198884007@fax.uwaterloo.ca
For long distance faxes you need the “1” digit e.g. 61<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca
For international calls you need the “011” prefix e.g. 6011<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca
Send an email with optional attachments (supported attachment types: HTML, PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, WPD, RTF, TXT, PS, GIF, JPG, BMP, TIFF)
You will receive a confirmation email a few minutes after sending

Select the Scanner icon from the home screen
Select Add and enter the fax number using the keyboard:
6<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca (where <fax number> is the actual fax number) e.g. 65198884007@fax.uwaterloo.ca

Select "Enter"
Select "Send"
You will receive a printed confirmation a few minutes after sending
If you use a fax number frequently, you can add it to the address book for one-touch entry.
Use an email that has been set up with a dedicated fax number
If you require a dedicated fax line or would like a fax line configured to email please have your department administrator submit a request ticket to enable this service.
Incoming faxes can go directly to a dedicated fax number via an email address. If incoming faxes are to be directed to an email address, you must set up a general email account that would be monitored by one or more people.

Have a fax number that can be directed to a dedicated email address or department fax machine
Please check with your department administrator for the fax number and instructions
If you require a dedicated fax line or would like a fax line configured to email please have your department administrator submit a request ticket to enable this service.
