How to create inbox rules for emails identified as spam by Cisco Email Security (CES)

Cisco Email Security (CES) identifies and delivers spam messages into your Junk folder automatically. If you would like certain messages identified as spam to be delivered to a different mailbox folder, follow the steps below.

  1. Create an Outlook inbox rule by going to File > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule.

  2. In the Rule Wizard pop-up, select ‘Apply rule on messages I receive’ and click Next.

  3. Under the 'Select conditions' list:

    1. Select the checkbox next to ‘with specific words in the message header’.

    2. Click the underlined value (specific words) in the second box.

    3. In the ‘Search Text’ pop-up, type in one or more of the values below, depending on how many categories you want to include as part of this rule. Click Add, then click Next.

      1. X-Graymail: LowPriority (for marketing emails)

      2. X-Graymail: Social (for social emails)

      3. X-Graymail: BulkMail (for bulk emails)

      4. X-SPAM-FLAG (for spam emails)

  4. Under the 'Select action(s)' list:

    1. Check the boxes next to the desired actions.

    2. Click the underlined value (specified) in the second box.

    3. From the ‘Choose a folder’ pop-up, click the folder you want messages to be stored in and click OK. Then, click Next.

    4. If necessary, check the boxes next to any rule exceptions you would like to apply. Then, click Next.

  5. Add a name for your inbox rule, then click Finish.

    1. Check the box next to the ‘Run this rule now’ option if you want to apply the rule to previously delivered messages.

    2. Click Apply, then click OK to complete the process.
