How To Connect Your UW Outlook Account To Gmail [as an Alias]

This article outlines the steps and settings to configure for a @uwaterloo.ca address to send/receive from Gmail.com.
Formally known as “SMTP Configuration For Using Gmail”. /in

This functionality will only work with @uwaterloo.ca addresses. For example, @alumni.uwaterloo.ca will not work as a “Send as Alias” in Gmail.


Step 1: Head over to Gmail.com and go to the Settings tab. Here you will click Accounts and Import, then Add another email address.

Step 2: Enter your name and full UW email address (unchecking ‘treat as an alias’).

Step 3: Configure the uwaterloo.ca SMTP server settings:

  • SMTP Server: mailservices.uwaterloo.ca

  • Port: 587.

  • Username: <WatIAM Username>

  • Password: <WatIAM Password>

  • Encryption method: TLS

Step 4: Click Add Account
