How to access a shared account - users with Connect (on-prem) email accounts.

This article provides detail on two methods of accessing shared mailboxes and generic email accounts using Connect email accounts.

You can access the account by either logging into the account or by adding the account to your mailbox

Log in to the account

Log in to https://outlook.office.com/mail/username@uwaterloo.ca/ (where username is the 8-character username of the generic account):

  • Some generic accounts are configured to allow you to log in with your own 8-character UWaterloo (personal) myuserna@uwaterloo.ca

  • Some generic accounts require you to log in with the generic account username and password (e.g. generic1@uwaterloo.ca).

If you are not sure which method to use, contact your IT support rep or the IST Service Desk for assistance.

OR

Add the account to your primary mailbox (your own UWaterloo personal email)

  1. Log in to your account on the web: https://connect.uwaterloo.ca

  2. Right-click the name of your primary mailbox (such as Molly Dempsey) in the left navigation pane, and then choose Add shared folder.

  3. In the Add shared folder dialogue box, type the name or email address of the shared or generic mailbox, and then click Add.

  4. The shared mailbox displays in your Folder list in Outlook on the web. You can expand or collapse the shared mailbox folders as you can with your primary mailbox.

  5. (You also can remove the shared mailbox from your Folder list. To remove it, right-click the shared mailbox, and then click Remove shared folder.)
