AADSTS50107: Requested Federation Realm Object Error

This error message could be displayed when trying to log in to your Microsoft 365 (M365) account and can be caused by various reasons. Usually, it means that the M365 account is trying to use incorrect or expired credentials when signing in to your account. This error can be resolved by following the instructions below.

The AADSTS50107 error could be presented to you in one of two ways:

Solution to the First Error

1. Clear the cache and cookies on the browser for All time.

2. Once the cache and cookies have been cleared, close all web browser windows and tabs.

  • Windows: Close out all windows and tabs.

  • Mac: Press the Command and Q keys at the same time to quit the application

3. Restart the device.

4. Once the device has been restarted, open your browser and navigate to: office.com.

5. Log in with your 8-character UWaterloo username @ uwaterloo.ca (e.g. myuserna@uwaterloo.ca) and your password.

Avoid using old bookmarks and saved passwords as this can result in the same error message. You can also replace your old bookmarks with the office.com URL

Solution to the Second Error

There is no Microsoft 365 (M365) inbox under your account.

  • If you are an incoming student, your inbox will be created when you are matriculated (i.e. your status in our systems changed from applicant to student). Typically there will be a communication sent out to you which will inform you that your UWaterloo email account is ready for you to use.
