Set up new phone with Okta Verify and/or DUO

If you have recently acquired a new mobile phone and need to get two-factor authentication (2FA) set up, please use the instructions below.

Reset Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

Since your current MFA will be tied to your old phone, please submit a ticket to the Tech Team asking them to reset it for you.

Only after it has been reset can you continue with the setup.

Download the Okta Verify app to your new phone

Login to Accuro to choose MFA

The following will not work unless the Tech Team has reset your multi-factor authentication (MFA). Submit a ticket to them first!

  1. Go to https://accuro.cloud and login with your Accuro credentials.

  2. You will be prompted to set up your MFA. Click the Set Up button under Okta Verify App.

  3. You will be provided with instructions and a QR code to complete the setup. Leave the QR code on your screen until it is needed in the instructions below.

Open Okta Verify

  1. After you have downloaded and installed Okta Verify on your new phone, open it.

  2. Press Add Account.

     

  3. Press Organization.

  4. Press Yes, Ready to Scan.
    Your cell phone may ask for permission to allow Okta Verify to use your camera, ensure you enable this.

     

  5. Hover your cell phone’s camera over the QR code provided to you in the previous step to scan it.

     

  6. Press Allow to enable Push notifications from Okta Verify. Your cell phone may also ask you to provide Okta permission to send you notifications, press Allow.

     

  7. You will then get verification that the account has been added. Press Done to complete.

Download the Duo app to your new phone

Register your new phone

If you have your old phone, go to https://uwaterloo.login.duosecurity.com/devices and login with your UW email address (user@uwaterloo.ca) and complete 2FA with your old phone. Then complete the instructions for adding your new phone.

If you no longer have access to your old phone, submit a ticket to the Tech Team and provide the following:

  • The make and model of your new phone (e.g., Samsung Galaxy S21, iPhone 15, etc.)

  • State whether your phone number has changed or not

The Tech Team will register your new phone in the system and will text you instructions to complete the setup.
