Tips for Writing an Assignment in Mobius

Before writing a Mobius Assignment

Before writing a Mobius Assignment, review the following tips and suggestions.

  • Supported Browser: Check theMobius System Requirements to ensure you are using a Mobius-supported browser. 

  • Stable Internet Connection: Use a stable, preferably wired (as opposed to wireless), high speed Internet connection. 

  • Close All Other Mobius Tabs: If you try to open two Mobius tabs at the same time, data from one can affect the other and cause errors.

  • Starting Your Assignment: Once you start your assignment, you must complete it. Make sure you start your Mobius assignment with enough time before the listed end date. For example, if the time limit for a test is 120 minutes but it is only 60 minutes until the listed End Date and Time, you will only have 60 minutes to write the test.

  • Watching the Time: If your assignment has a time limit, keep an eye on the Remaining Time displayed at the top of the assignment page. Assignments submitted after this time may not include any unsaved responses.  

  • Technical Difficulties: If you encounter technical difficulty, please contact Technical Support at learnhelp@uwaterloo.ca. Technical support is available during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Eastern Time). 

Common problems experienced in Mobius

When starting a Mobius Assignment, I am told "You do not satisfy the requirements for this activity"

  • Please read all of the information in the tables on this page. It should indicate what requirement is causing this issue. More commonly, students are usually either outside of the Start and End Date period, or they have used the maximum number of attempts allowed on this Assignment.

My question is not loading, or the page isn't functioning correctly

  • Try clicking Save & Quit. This will not submit your assignment, but will save your work. Close the Mobius tab, and then reenter the Mobius Assignment again. (note, your time will continue to elapse, so make sure you re-enter as quickly as possible).

  • If Save & Quit is not working, you can still close the tab and try re-entering, but any work done on the current page will not be saved, so make any necessary notes before closing the page.

  • If you are still experiencing issues with pages loading, send an email to your instructor and technical support, indicating the course and assignment, and include a full screenshot.

There appears to be an error in the question, or there are undefined variables in the question

  • This may be a technical issue with the question. Send an email to your instructor and technical support, indicating the course and assignment, and include a full screenshot.

Submitting your Mobius Assignment

  • If you have filled in every response area in the assignment, clicking Submit Assignment will immediate submit your attempt. No further warning or confirmation will be given.

  • If you have missed a response area when you click Submit Assignment, you will be notified of this and given a chance to re-enter any answers.

  • If you run out of time before submitting your assignment, anything you typed on the page you were on when your time ran out will not be saved.

    • Changing between questions will save any work you have completed in the assignment, so do this if you are nearing the end of your time and wish to save your work so far.
