    • Try sending yourself an email using the userid@uwaterloo.ca format

  3. Check your quota.

  4. Problems using an email client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird).

  5. Expecting mail that you are not receiving?

Usage limits

Why do we need limits? We need these limits to keep your email server running at its optimal performance. You should try to keep your Inbox and Sent Items folders small in size and in number of items.

  • Mailservices has a quota of 2GB for your entire mailbox, which includes all of your folders.

    • You can check your quota and mailbox space used (see instructions below).

  • Messages in Trash that are older than 30 days are deleted.

  • There is a 25MB size limit on individual email message in or out.

Steps for checking your quota

  1. Some of the email clients (e.g. Thunderbird) will display your quota and the size of your email files, and most (including Outlook) will warn you when you approach your quota.

  2. An easy way to check your quota is to log on to SquirrelMail and check there, the quota and usage in the top left corner.
