How to set up an email client
Settings for email client configuration
Instructions on this page are for Waterloo alumni who have Mailservices email accounts.
For Outlook, Thunderbird, iPhone and other mobile devices.
User name | Your WatIAM userid |
---|---|
Password | Your WatIAM password |
From email address | userid@uwaterloo.ca |
Incoming mail server (IMAP) | http://mailservices.uwaterloo.ca |
Incoming IMAP server port number (TLS) | 993 (SSL/TLS) |
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) | http://mailservices.uwaterloo.ca |
Outgoing SMTP server port number (TLS) | 465 (SSL/TLS) |
Outgoing server authentication | Enabled (normal password) |
For Outlook 2011 (and some versions of MacMail) use SSL and port 993 for incoming, and use SSL and port 587 for outgoing.
Address book lookups (LDAP)
If you're connecting from on-campus, your mail client can probably use the university's online email address lookup system. To do this, you need to configure your mail client, and you need to know the following:
Hostname | uwldap.uwaterloo.ca |
---|---|
Search Base DN | dc=uwaterloo,dc=ca |
Search Scope | Subtree |
Search Filter | (&(objectclass=person)(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)) |
Port number | 389 (but see SSL, below) |
Authentication / Bind DN | (None -- leave this blank) |
SSL, or `secure' connection | This is not necessary. Either will work - but if you select this, change the port number above to 636. |
Not all values will necessarily be available to you.
