Using two-factor authentication with HealthCloud
University of Waterloo accounts use the SSO login option at the login screen. This will initiate a two-factor authentication process similar to many systems on campus and will include a Duo prompt as the second-factor.
External accounts on HealthCloud where two-factor has been enforced uses TOTP authentication which is supported by a variety of authentication apps, including Duo, Google Authenticator, and Microsoft Authenticator.
After entering your HealthCloud username and password, you will see a screen that instructs you to add you HealthCloud account to an authenticator app
Open your preferred authenticator app on your device and select the Add account option
Duo Mobile:
Select the Add account option
Select the Use QR code at the top
scan the QR code displayed on the HealthCloud page.
Provide a name for the account (e.g. HealthCloud).
Tap the newly created account and enter the passcode displayed on the login screen in HealthCloud to complete the login
Microsoft Authenticator
Select the + at the top of the app to add an account
Select Other account
Scan the QR code displayed on the HealthCloud page.
Provide a name for the account (e.g. HealthCloud).
Tap the newly created account and enter the passcode displayed on the login screen in HealthCloud to complete the login
Google Authenticator
Select the + at the bottom of the app to add an account
Select Scan a QR code
Scan the QR code displayed on the HealthCloud page.
Enter the passcode displayed on the login screen in HealthCloud to complete the login
Note that Google Authenticator will display the name of the service as “FileCloud”
If you delete the HealthCloud entry in your authenticator app, it will need to be re-added. Contact the PI or contact in the Faculty of Health to have them request that 2FA be reset on your account.
