Text editing toolbar features

Copy text toolbar

The copy text Block has a collection of tools located in the toolbar at the top that allows users to edit, customize, and format content. Refer to How to create a copy text block if necessary.

Source allow users to view and edit the HTML code.

Undo and redo icons

 

Undo and redo allow users to undo or redo any actions.

 

Find searches the text for any characters, word or phrase you input. Users have options to match case, match whole word or match cyclic. Match cyclic means to cycle through the entire text to search for your phrase instead of just ending the search when it reaches the bottom of the page.

 

Replace searches for a character, word or phrase and replaces it with a new term.

 

Select all selects the entire text.

 

Check accessibility checks the Copy text block and finds accessibility issues including images with no alternative text or headings used in the wrong order. Note: It will not find all accessibility issues such as poorly written alternative text and it will not fix issues it finds either. Bold and italic formats are used to emphasize specific texts. Bolded text format is used to make text stand out. Italic text format is used for non-English words and publications. Refer to the University of Waterloo Writing Style Guide for more information.

 

Strikethrough allows users to cross out texts.

 

Subscript and superscript are used to make texts or numbers appear above or below the baseline of regular texts.

 

Remove formatting clears all the formatting in selected texts.

 

Insert/Remove numbered and bulleted list, refer to How to create a bulleted or numbered list.

 

Decrease and increase indent are used to adjust the levels of bulleted/numbered lists.

 

Link/ Unlink text, refer to How to add a Hyperlink to text for more information.

 

Create an anchor, refer to How to create anchor links for more information.

 

Create math equation, refer to How to add a LaTex equations for more information.

 

Create a table, refer to How to create a table for more information.

 

Insert horizontal line, refer to How to create a horizontal rule for more information.

 

Insert from media library, refer to How to add an image to content for more information.

 

Show blocks displays the formatting Blocks present in the text.

Function

 

Headings are used to tag the headings in the page. Headings must be used in sequence and cannot be skipped (i.e. H1, H2, H3, H2 and cannot be H1, H3, H5). Headings are necessary for accessibility reasons.

 

Formatted text style creates a <pre> tag in the HTML, which displays texts in a fixed-width font and preserves both spaces and line breaks when they are written in the HTML.

Highlight is used to emphasize texts that need the users’ attention by changing them to a lighter font colour and slightly bigger size. Refer to How to highlight text.

 

Caption is used to provide descriptions (caption) below an inserted image. It displays a smaller font size text in a bordered box.

 

Address creates an <address> HTML tag. It is used to represent contact information, such as an address, name of author, telephone number, etc.

 

These styles are used to convey updates and modifications in a document. Refer to How to style inserted and deleted text.

 

Inline code allows the user to represent code within the text editor. 

 

Key input allows the user to show inputted values. It displays text in a grey bordered box.

 

Shows sample output.

 

Shows variables within equations for statements.

Highlight mark emphasizes text with a yellow shade.
