Using AV equipment in BMH-3119
BMH-3119 has a TV, a podium computer with a meeting Owl, and a long HDMI cable at the podium that can be used to connect a laptop.
Using the computer in the room (Podium)
Power on the TV using the remote
Tap the spacebar to wake up the computer
Sign in to the Windows computer using your UW userid and password
By default the TV screen will be an extension of the desktop. This is useful for PowerPoint presentations when you want to see speaker notes at the podium. If you would rather have both screens show the same content hold down the Windows key and tap the P key and select Duplicate as the option.
When done:
Sign out of the podium computer
Power off the TV using the remote
Using your own computer - connected by HDMI cable
Power on the TV using the remote
Get your computer ready to present - powered up, signed in and ready to go.
Connect HDMI cable from the side of the podium to your computer. If you don’t have an HDMI display port (or adapter) see the Reception area in Dean’s Office (BMH-3104) or Health Computing (BMH first floor hallway to SunLife auditorium).
Wait for the source to be detected by the TV
Using a Mac? We recommend setting your display preference to “Scaled” at 1080P or to the same size as your laptop screen.
When done:
Disconnect the HDMI cable from the laptop, wrap it in a loop and leave it on the shelf at the podium
Power off the TV using the remote
Video Conferencing
The room has a Meeting Owl - a video/audio conference camera, microphone and speaker. After you see it, you will understand its name. The Owl is plugged in and connected to the podium computer.
RECOMMENDED: Use the podium computer for Video Conferencing in this room
Follow the steps in the Using the computer in the room (Podium) setup
Confirm that the Owl Source switch box (located on top of the podium) has the Podium Computer option lit. If not, press the Podium Computer light/button until it is lit:
Confirm that the Meeting Owl is the selected device for both audio and video in the meeting software, if having problems you may need to reboot the Owl by unplugging the power brick that is under the table, wait 15 seconds and plug back in, or rebooting the podium machine if audio issues. If after such there are still problems you can contact Health Computing (BMH first floor hallway to SunLife auditorium).
Use your own computer for Video Conferencing
Note: The cable used to connect the Meeting Owl to a laptop is short (longer ones don’t work reliably) so you will need to host the meeting from your laptop at the podium or at one of the chairs immediately in front of the podium.
Follow the steps for Using your own computer - connected by HDIM cable
Confirm that the Owl Source switch box (located on top of the podium) has the Laptop Computer option lit. If not, press the Laptop Computer light/button until it is lit:
Connect the USB cable from Owl Source box (the one in line with the Laptop Computer option you’ve selected) to your laptop. You will need to use an adapter if your laptop has only USB-C.
Confirm that the Meeting Owl is the selected device for both audio and video in the meeting software, if having problems you may need to reboot the Owl by unplugging the power brick that is under the table, wait 15 seconds and plug back in. It will take a while to start up and then it will ‘hoot’.
When done your meeting, please press the Podium Computer button on the Owl Source switch so that it is available for the next person using the room
