BMH-3119 meeting room with the Meeting Owl on the table and the large TV screen showing the feed from the in-room computer

BMH-3119 has a TV, a podium computer with a meeting Owl, and a long HDMI cable at the podium that can be used to connect a laptop.

  1. Using the computer in the room

  2. Using your own computer - connected by HDIM cable

  3. Using video conferencing

Using the computer in the room (Podium)

  1. Power on the TV using the remote

  2. Tap the spacebar to wake up the computer

  3. Sign in to the Windows computer using your UW userid and password

  4. By default the TV screen will be an extension of the desktop. This is useful for PowerPoint presentations when you want to see speaker notes at the podium. If you would rather have both screens show the same content hold down the Windows key and tap the P key and select Duplicate as the option.

  5. When done:

    1. Sign out of the podium computer

    2. Power off the TV using the remote

Using your own computer - connected by HDMI cable

  1. Power on the TV using the remote

  2. Get your computer ready to present - powered up, signed in and ready to go.

  3. Connect the (very long) HDMI cable at the side of the podium to your computer. If you don’t have an HDMI display port (or adapter) see the Reception area in Dean’s Office (BMH-3104) or Health Computing (BMH first floor hallway to SunLife auditorium).

  4. Wait for the source to be detected by the TV

  5. Using a Mac? Confirm the screen mirroring option (“Mirror Entire Screen” tends to work best, or select “Use as Extended Display”).

  6. When done:

    1. Disconnect the HDMI cable from the laptop, wrap it in a loop and leave it beside the podium

    2. Power off the TV using the remote

Video Conferencing

The room has a Meeting Owl - a video/audio conference camera, microphone and speaker. After you see it, you will understand its name. The Owl is plugged in and connected to the podium computer.

RECOMMENDED: Use the podium computer for Video Conferencing in this room

  1. Follow the steps in the Using the computer in the room (Podium) setup

  2. Confirm that the Owl USB-C cable is connected to the USB-C port on the front of the podium computer

  3. Confirm that the Meeting Owl is the selected device for both audio and video in the meeting software.

  4. Confirm that the Meeting Owl is the selected device for both audio and video in the meeting software.

  5. If you are having problems, you may need to reboot the Owl by unplugging the power brick that is under the table, wait 15 seconds and plug back in, or rebooting the podium machine if audio issues. It will take a while to start up and then it will ‘hoot’.
If there are still problems you can contact Health Computing (BMH first floor hallway to SunLife auditorium).

Use your own computer for Video Conferencing
