Watgamer - How to access H: drive (Personal Drive)

All users are granted data storage on the server. It is automatically mapped to your H: drive. This can be used for personal data that needs to be backed up on a regular basis. Backups are handled by IT Staff. Any data that is left on the workstations should be considered temporary.

 Instructions

The steps below will be for Windows 10/11 and will assume that you already have it connected as a mapped drive. If you need to map a drive to your personal network storage, refer to How to connect to H: Drive (Windows 10/11).

Windows 10/11

In Windows, your H: drive should already be mapped automatically when you log on. To confirm, see steps below.

  1. In Windows, click on Start > Windows System > This PC.

  2. Click on This PC from the side menu (1) then in the main window, locate Network locations. There should be a listing for your Network drive (H:) here which points to the \\gi-gateway\home. Double click on it to access our files/folders. If there is no listing under Network locations for your H: drive, please email gamesinstitute-it@uwaterloo.ca or submit a Jira ticket to have Games Institute IT check on the status of your network drive.
