How to access network storage for storing research data

Please note: Local computer storage should be considered temporary storage and could be erased at any time. Please remember to back up your data to the GI-Gateway server using the instructions below. The Games Institute and Games Institue IT are not responsible for lost data that is stored on the local computer hard drive.

 Instructions

  1. Open Windows Explorer/This PC.

  2. Click on the Computer tab (1), then click on Map Network Drive (2).

  3. Fill out the settings in the Map Network Drive prompt,

    1. select the Drive letter to have mapped to the network storage space. Choose any letter that is available.

    2. Next, populate the Folder with the file path to the network storage space \\gi-gateway.watgamer.uwaterloo.ca\sponsors\<your project folder name here>

    3. Place a checkmark in Reconnect as sign-in

    4. Click on Finish.

  4. If mapping is successful, the mapped drive should appear and you can now copy any data that is needed for long-term storage onto this newly mapped drive or save data from an application to the drive letter used to map the folder.

You can also directly access the network folder space without mapping a drive by pasting the file path directly into the address\file path bar
