Call-to-action (CTA)

A Call to Action (CTA) is a block type that formats a link to influence users to interact with it. Call to Action can be added to the layouts of different content pages. The width of the CTA will automatically be adjusted to fit the section. This functionality can be implemented using Blocks on a web page or sidebar.

When adding multiple CTAs to a content page, it's recommended that you add them as a group within the same Block to keep sizing consistent.

Create a Call to Action (CTA)

If you need to create a web page first, review the instructions on how to create a web page. If you need to create a sidebar first, review the instructions on how to create a sidebar.

  1. From the administration bar, select Workbench, then select My Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to the Content list panel and select the content you would like to edit.

  3. Select the Layout tab.

  4. Select + Add section if applicable, then select + Add block

  5. Under Content, select Call to action

  6. Enter a Title. Select whether you want it displayed by checking/unchecking the Display title box. The Title will appear as a Block header if Display title is selected. 

  7. Add a Link. This is where the viewer will be redirected when they click on the CTA.  

    • Internal link (links to a page within the site): Begin to type the title of the page and select the page from the drop-down list. You can also type a slash followed by the node number.

    • Internal file: Open the PDF in a new tab and copy/paste the relative path (everything after uwaterloo.ca/sitename).

    • External link/file: Paste the full URL.

    • Email address: Type mailto: followed by the email address.

  8. Add Text Details which will appear as the button text.

  9. Choose the Type of text you want to display (big/medium/small). 

  10. To add more lines of text: select Add another item for the same link.

  11. Select a Theme from the drop-down menu. The default is UWaterloo Black and Gold.

  12. If desired, select Add Call to Action and repeat steps 8-12 to create a group of CTAs.

  13. Select Add block (Or Update if it is a pre-existing block).

  14. Select state from the Change to: drop-down menu.

  15. Select Save layout
