How to configure Qualtrics authentication to work with UWaterloo's ADSF authentication

By adding an authenticator to your survey, you can require respondents to confirm their identity by logging in before they take the survey. This will allow you to use one general link for your survey while still collecting personalized responses. For information on how to use Authenticators please see the following Qualtrics Knowledge Base article: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-flow/advanced-elements/authenticator/authenticator-overview/

This article describes how to set up the authenticator for your survey in your UWaterloo Qualtrics account.

UWaterloo specific information

When setting up the information for the authenticator, the fields to use are:

Authentication Type: SSO

SSO Type: Shibboleth.

Connection: uwaterloo authenticator

  • To obtain just the username you would need to parse it from the Windowsaccountname/

  • The possible affiliations at UWaterloo are GradStudent, UndergradStudent, employee, faculty, staff, alumni. The results will show all the affiliations of a user.

  • You need only specify the fields you want to extract information for. In the example below, the fields that will be extracted are shown under the Data type.

  • The fields specified are automatically collected and added to the survey record and will appear in reports.
