Using Word Online for transcribing recorded interviews

A couple of research projects have used the online version of Word in Microsoft365 to do transcripts from audio files and it works surprisingly well. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/transcribe-your-recordings-7fc2efec-245e-45f0-b053-2a97531ecf57 .

You can upload recordings to Word online to be transcribed but you are limited to 5hrs per month. There is no way around this upload limit (i.e. there are no exceptions allowed by Microsoft). However, you can record from within Word online without limits so you can either:

1. Use Word Online to record the interview or

2. Simply play back the interview recording file while transcribing it in Word Online (recommended).
