Teams Audio Troubleshooting

If your speaker or microphone is not working while in a Teams meeting, the issue likely is that your computer audio settings are not synced with your Teams audio settings.

How to Check your Computer Audio Settings

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Settings.

     

  3. In Settings, select System.

     

  4. Once in System, select Sound.

     

  5. Now you are in the Sound settings for your computer, here you can see two options—the input and output devices. The input refers to the microphone and the output refers to the speakers.

     

  6. If you have multiple audio devices connected, then you can select the drop-down menu that is located under Choose your output device. In the picture below you can see two options—the (Mpow HC) refers to the headset speakers, and the (Realtek Audio) refers to the laptop speakers. In this picture, the headphones are set as the audio device being used. Please ensure that you have selected the audio device that you wish to use.

     

  7. Once your output device is selected, please check that your input device is selected as well. If you scroll down, you can select the drop-down menu for input device and select what microphone you wish to use.

     

  8. To test the output, click the slider located under Master Volume, you should hear a “ding” out of your selected audio device.

     

  9. To test the input please speak into your microphone and look at the volume reader located under Test your microphone.

     

  10. Now that you have selected your audio input/output, please take note of the names of the devices for crosschecking them with your Teams audio settings below.

How to Check your Teams Audio Settings

  1. Open Teams.

  2. Select the three dots next to your profile picture in the upper-right corner.

     

  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.

     

  4. Once in Settings, select Devices.

     

  5. Once you have selected Devices, you will see an audio settings page with three main points of interest: Audio Devices, Speaker, and Microphone.

     

  6. When selecting the drop-down menu for Audio Devices you should be presented with 2-3 options, depending on how many audio devices you have connected. PC Mic and Speakers refers to your computer speaker and microphone. Custom Setup refers to manually selecting which audio devices you want to use. You may also have a third option that refers to a headset that is connected (e.g., Mpow HC).

  7. Select Custom Setup.

     

  8. You can then go to the Speakers and Microphone drop-down menus. Please ensure that they set to the same devices as your computer settings. In the picture below, the Speaker and Microphone are set to a headset (Mpow HC).

     

  9. To ensure that your audio is now synced, you can click Make a Test Call. This will allow you to test your microphone and speakers so you can hear what a call will sound like before you make one.
