How to create a GitLab account

All University of Waterloo users with a UWaterloo email address (ie. username@uwaterloo.ca) are automatically permitted to sign into the self-hosted GitLab environment at https://git.uwaterloo.ca. Upon signing in for the first time, a GitLab account will be provisioned and the new user can create repositories or be invited to join existing repositories.

Collaboration with external users (not part of UWaterloo) will require a sponsorship for a guest UWaterloo account to be created for them in order for UWaterloo users to share their projects. To begin this process, complete the sponsorship request form listed here and request that email access be granted: https://uwaterloo.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/410/create/317

How to sign in

  1. Navigate to the UWaterloo GitLAB website

  2. Click on the UW ADFS icon to initiate sign in. Do not use the pre-existing Username and Password fields

  3. Enter your 8-character username and password to sign in

The Username and Password fields on the sign in page are for external users only.
