The Learning Environment Team understands the importance of security and privacy.  We engage in Waterloo’s Information Risk Assessment process, as well as work together with the University of Waterloo Privacy Officer and the Information Security Officer to review third-party tools prior to integration with LEARN.  

This page lists the third-party tools that are integrated with LEARN with a brief description of each, and details about what user data is shared between Waterloo LEARN and the third-party tool.

Other tools

Akindi

Akindi is used for scanning paper exams.

Bongo

LEARN has the ability to receive grades from Bongo.

Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative

Carnegie Mellon open learning initiative is a publisher tool integrated with LEARN.

LEARN has the ability to recieve grades from Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative.

Crowdmark

​Crowdmark is a collaborative online grading and analytics platform.

DecisionSim

​DecisionSim™ is a simulation-based learning platform that enhances decision-making by allowing organizations to easily create assessment, education, and training programs that deliver insights and improve outcomes through "real world" engagement.

Macmillan Learning publishes books and develops digital tools for the education industry. The company offers curriculum solutions, lab solutions, learning management systems, and e-books.

McGraw-Hill Education (MHE) is a learning science company and one of the "big three" educational publishers that provides customized educational content, software, and services for pre-K through postgraduate education.

Mobius​

Möbius is a comprehensive online courseware environment that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Pearson Education (see also Pearson PLC) is a British-owned education publishing and assessment service to schools and corporations, as well as directly to students.

peerScholar is an innovative on-line pedagogical tool that supports students' collaboration, learning and reflection.

Perusall

Perusall is a social reading platformm available to students as an integration into the LMS. Perusall allows students (and teaching staff) to digitally annotate readings (with text, links, and embedded content).

Piazza

Piazza is a free online gathering place where students can ask, answer, and explore 24/7, under the guidance of their instructors. Used as a discussion tool outside of LEARN.
