What is WatSAFE desktop notification?
WatSAFE Desktop Notification is one of several channels the University of Waterloo's emergency communication system will use to distribute messages in the event of an emergency. When triggered, the WatSAFE Desktop Notification software would cause a pop-up window to appear on the users desktop screen, displaying the emergency message.Â
Installation
IST-managed machines
The WatSAFE desktop notification software is pushed out to all IST-managed workstations via the SCCM software management tool.Â
Non-managed machines
To install the latest version of the WatSAFE desktop notification software on a workstation not managed by IST, complete the following steps:
Extract all content from the AppArmorDesktop_6.4.0.0.zip file (below)
Double click to run the extracted MSI file to install
An installation window will appear
Accept the agreement
Accept default or Browse to select desired file storage location
Click Install
Local IT administrative privileges may be required to complete the installation
Leave Launch program box check
Click Finish
Managed machines outside of IST
If you are responsible for managing a group of machines outside of IST, you may request a package-based deployment version via Jira Service Management, https://uwaterloo.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/413/create/1344.
Note
The AppArmor WatSAFE desktop notification client will now automatically updateÂ
Verifying installation
For both managed and unmanaged machines
To ensure the WatSAFE Desktop Notification is installed, look for the icon (Waterloo crest) in the system tray and ensure the status icon is green. Hovering over the icon will display WatSAFE Desktop Notification.Â
