Share files securely outside UW

Here’s how to share files securely with people outside UW.

  1. Open OneDrive and create a folder where the shared files will be stored.

  2. Right-click that folder and choose Share.

  3. In the window that opens:

    1. Enter the email address(es) of the people you wish to share the folder and its contents with.

    2. Use the pencil icon to choose whether the recipient can edit or just view (edit is default).

    3. Write a message to the recipient(s), if you want.

    4. Click Send.

       

  4. Each recipient will receive the email shown below.

     

  5. You will know that the folder in OneDrive is shared when you see the person icon beside it.

     

Please note

  • People with access to a shared folder can add files to it as well as open existing files.

  • If you wish to share just a file and not a whole folder, simply right-click the file and choose Share.

To Un-share a OneDrive folder:

  1. Open OneDrive and right-click the shared folder.

  2. Choose Share.

  3. In the window that opens, you will see icons for all the people it is shared with at the bottom.

  4. Click the icon for the person you wish to remove.

  5. In the window that opens, click the down arrow beside their icon.

     

  6. Click the X to remove them. They will no longer have access to the folder.
