Follow these instructions to authenticate to the 802.1x network using an Ubuntu device.

  1. Click on the Network Manager icon

  2. Select the ethernet connection you are attempting to authenticate to, and then select Settings

  3. Click the gear icon beside the connection you are editing

  4. Navigate to the Security tab

  5. Turn on the toggle beside 802.1x Security

  6. Configure the settings to match the following:

  • Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

  • Check the No CA Certificate Required box

  • PEAP version: Automatic

  • Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2

  • Username: your username@uwaterloo.ca

  • Password: your WatIAM password

7. Select Apply

You should now be authenticated to the 802.1x wired network.
