Lab Instructors have responsibilities for selecting and managing the TAs that support their courses.
TAO - Grad student ranking
About 12 weeks prior to the start of the term, an automated email is sent out from the TAO system to all LIs who are listed.
TAO - Instructor ranking
About 10 weeks prior to the start of the term, an automated email is sent out from the TAO system to all LIs who are listed to select TAs on courses.
The TAO ranking page shows the amount of TA allocation for the course. A TA allocation of 1.0 corresponds to a total of 130 hours worked in a term.
TA responsibilities are typically divided between:
tutorials
labs
exam proctoring
exam grading
TA responsibilities may include other areas, based upon instructor discretion.
The TAO ranking page shows the preferences of the graduate students for which courses they would like to be a TA. They each select one course from rank 1 to 3.
By clicking under the Previous Survey column, you can find the text that the graduate student entered as part of their TA application.
Initial communications with Course Instructor
Each LI should have work collaboratively with the Course Instructor to have agreement on the roles of TAs within the course. The LI should reach out to the Course Instructor as early as possible to establish communications. Generally, this takes place around the time the TAO system becomes open for TA applications.
