Update on team status

• The team needs to take a term where we can regroup and revamp a lot of our team processes. The admin work that MUST be completed this term are:

  • Creating a master BOM that captures every single component that goes into our rover with associated weight & cost

  • Creating a process for automatically updating the BOM after the design for a sub-assembly is finalized

  • Updating our Confluence to reflect the change in our PDM software, CAD folder structure, file naming scheme

  • Rolling out our new PDM software to existing members and getting everyone familiar with it.

  • Changing the layout of the bay to increase efficiency and just make it a nice space to be in

• Due to the sheer amount of admin work that must be done this term, there isn’t enough bandwidth for the leads/senior members to train new members this term. Therefore, we will not be taking on new members this term.

Overarching plan for this term

• The goal for this term is manufacturing the carbon fiber drive-train. This task will require the full attention of everyone on term in Waterloo right now. Furthermore, in order to meet deadlines and keep people accountable, I believe that the tasks relevant to this project should only be handed out to the people in Waterloo this term.

• Unfortunately, this means that there won’t be a lot of design tasks given out to members that are remote this term. That being said, I have identified some interesting R&D projects that our remote members can take on - the R&D projects are longer term projects for improving the capabilities of our team.
