Learning to code for kids

Here are some resources for learning to code. I’ve avoided any that require payment or a login.

Web-based tools

rodocodo - Code Hour for ages 4-7 and 8-11

Play Rodocodo - Code Hour

Notes: web-based game, but also available for iPhone or Android

Quick to get into and easy to play. Will get trickier as you complete levels.

Blockly Games

Similar to rodocodo with a little less “hand holding”. A bit more advanced.

Has several different flavours of games, Puzzle is like LightBot or RododCodo, “Turtle” is like programming in Logo. Music and Pond are very interesting. Based on Scratch.

Scratch

Scratch - Imagine, Program, Share

Full featured system based on Block programming. Lots of tutorials.
