Embedding Google Drive Documents within Confluence
This page is a how-to on embedding Google drive documents, such as Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, within Confluence pages. This allows viewers to directly view and optionally edit documents on our Google Drive from within Confluence without having to navigate to an external link.
Prerequisite: Configuring Document Share Permissions
To allow Confluence to embed a document from Google Drive, its share permissions should be set such that it can be accessed by anyone through a link. This can be done by clicking on the “Share” button on the toolbar of the Google document viewer:
From here, click on “Change” under the “Get Link” heading and configure the settings such that everyone with the link can View the page. If desired, permissions can be configured such that anyone with the link can comment or edit within the document, but the latter is to be avoided.
Once configured, click on the “Copy link” button and keep the URL for the next step.
Embedding the Document into Confluence
Once the document within Google Drive has been configured it can be embedded within a Confluence document simply by pasting its URL within a page. Once pasted, the URL will transform into an inline link that just displays the title of the linked document. Click on the link and change its display style from “Link” to “Embed”:
If your URL does not transform into an inline link when you first paste it into the Confluence page then you will not get the option to display it as an embed. In this case, simply click on the URL and change its display style to “Link” and the option to change it to “Embed” should pop up.
If successful an embed of the document should pop up, and once you publish the page you should be good to go.
