About this service

IST offers a co-location service for internal campus IT groups that would like IST to host their servers for them.  IST can assist with migrating the hardware into the IST datacenter.  This includes rack space, network access, remote console, etc. 

 

IST operates two data centre locations on campus. 
MC data centre: 

  • redundant generators 

  • redundant room level UPS 

  • redundant computer room air conditioners 

  • redundant server room routers 

  • redundant host switching 

EC2 data centre: 

  • redundant generators 

  • redundant room level UPS 

  • Redundant computer room air conditioners 

  • redundant server room routers 

  • redundant host switching

  • Staff

How to request this service

Submit a request using the IST general request form and include the following information:

  • Server specification

  • Expected network utilization 

  • Information on faculty support group

  • Point of contact who must approve all change requests (must use a Waterloo email address)

Pricing/cost

While there is no cost for most co-location requests, some aspects of this service may require a fee. Please contact IST to confirm.
