The platform authenticator method involves your computer or an external device for authentication.

By enrolling in a platform authenticator, you must be using your device with the platform authenticator or you will not be able to authenticate.

It is recommended you add another 2FA method besides the platform authenticator, so you do not get locked out.

You can enroll in a platform authenticator via

Enrolling

  1. Visit Device management

  2. Authenticate with your 8-character username @uwaterloo.ca (e.g. j25rober@uwaterloo.ca) and password

  3. Select Add a device

  4. For laptop device or Google Password Manager method, select Windows Hello. For iCloud Keychain or U2F token (security key) option, select Security Key.
