FAQ’s

Can I customize my election?

Yes, there are many options for question types and the options you can set for them.

  • Managing Questions - In the Questions section you define the items or issues being voted upon. Questions represent individual topics on which your electors will vote.

  • Managing Question Options - Options are the candidates or options electors may select. There is no limit to the number of options.

  • Upload or attach files to an election - You can specify a description and upload an image of the candidates and/or attach .PDF files (e.g., CV/resume, etc.).

Do I have to proof the ballot?

  • Yes, proofing the ballot is a mandatory step.

  • Casting a proof vote provides the opportunity to review the questions and get a sense of what the election will look like for the electors (voters).

  • Proofing the Election

Why am I getting an Elector Collision Warning?

This warning indicates that an elector ID (WatIAM) is being used for two different electors.

  • This can happen if another Returning Officer in the UW instance has entered the person’s name differently, but the WatIAM matches.

  • This warning can be safely ignored.

How do I use the Email Blast feature?

If you include an email address for the electors, you can use the Email Blast feature to send voting instructions and reminders to vote to the electors.

  • Email Blasts can be sent to all electors, electors that have not yet voted, or specific electors.

  • Managing Email Blasts

  • It is recommended that you include the following information in the email template:

  • To vote, please visit Simply Voting: https://uwaterloo.simplyvoting.com/

Simply Voting is the campus web-based online voting system supporting the official online voting needs on campus. For more information see Information Systems & Technology knowledge base article - About Simply Voting

NOTE: emails come from vote@simplyvoting.com with an option to unsubscribe.

If an elector has unsubscribed from these emails, they won’t receive your email blast. You can verify whether they have unsubscribed from the Bad emails page of your election.

To remove themselves from the bad emails list and start receiving emails again, they can send an email to resubscribe@simplyvoting.com from the specific email address they unsubscribed from. It's an automatic process and they will be removed from the bad emails list immediately and will thus receive any email blasts sent to them afterwards.

For more information on managing bad emails, you can refer to the help guide, Managing Bad Emails

Can I edit my election once it has started?

Change the End Date and End Time of a live election:
