Task Manager

Skills

  • Sheet metal design and material selection

  • Low level vehicle kinematics (CG selection and optimization)

  • Battery protection design decisions

Task Description

  • A new battery mount needs to be design for our 2023 rover

  • The battery for the rover is a large 44.4V LiPo battery contained in a fireproof LiPo bag. The battery contained within this bag should be mounted on the rover.

  • The battery was originally planned to mount underneath the ebox, to minimize the CG and roughly balance out the heavy mass of the arm with a rear weight, although this decision may need to be revisited. (Note, include picture of rough mounting position)

  • A mount should be designed to satisfy the following criteria:

    • Securely contains battery and LiPo bag

    • Mounts to existing rover chassis

    • Minimizes moments on differential bar; keeps total CG of rover as close to the floor as possible

    • Protects battery from being hit or impacted by any environmental stimuli

Task Breakdown

  • Select mounting location on chassis
  • Create design ideas for a mount that will protect and secure battery/bag to chassis
  • Review design ideas and select a design
  • Create drawings for custom parts, plan manufacturing processes
  • Source and purchase all required materials
  • Manufacture and assemble design

Prerequisites

  • This task has no prerequisites. Both the battery and LiPo bag are currently stored within the bay.
