This is the list of queries that should be run before course build opens for the undergrad scheduling reps. Once the queries have been run we send out this email to those that have course build access.

 What is Course build?

Course build is the scheduling reps side of Quest that they use to add/remove the PCS (or 701) sections from Quest.

The Quest Navigation is: Waterloo Student Admin → CEM → Use → Course Build

We create all the PCS sections (except the ones on the exceptions list) for courses offered for a term, we do all the necessary clean up using the rest of the queries in this procedure. Once we have done all that it’s up to the reps to log in and change, add, or remove any sections that were either missed, or intentionally left off by off our team that this term they want added, or that they don’t want a PCS section for. This is also where they can clean up any notes that on the PCS sections that were carried over from last year that need to be updated.

We in Scheduling have told the reps it’s not our responsibility to change or check the notes that have been added to PCS sections, as we already maintain the ones on the real sections.

If you’re feeling kind here’s the notes query: UW_RS_SCH_CLASS_NOTES_SB
The reps and students can see all the PCS sections that are being offered here: https://classes.uwaterloo.ca/uwpcshtm.html

Log into Quest and under query viewer run the following queries:

Find all sections that have a real section but no PCS to add those using Course Build screen/Schedule new classes (refer to PCS Exceptions list: later in this doc) Query changed to match on campus (ONLNR = ONLNR) no longer valid for before Fall 2021 terms

UW_RS_REAL_NO_PCS_SB

And

UW_RS_REAL_NO_PCS_ONLN_SB don’t need to run this one, the query above covers these

Query of PCS section information – things to check – capacity, consent, and section numbers.

Add/Drop Consent stays on with department consent for COMMST 193 and ENGL 193. Drop consent stays on for Engineering courses (SYDE all courses)

 UW_RS_SCH_PCS_SYNCHRO_CHK_SB

Find secondary/tertiary etc. components attached to PCS to clean them on the Class Associations panel in Quest:

UW_RS_PCS_COMP_NOT_REMOV_JV

Run after above query to re-add any that were accidentally removed:

UW_RS_SCH_COMP_NOT_ASS_CLS_JV

The following query was used when we only had CEL courses that were online, now with the remote sections these aren’t very useful.

Find all CEL sections that have an instruction mode set to P when it should be CO.

UW_RS_MISMATCH_INSTR_MODE_2_SB

UW_RS_MISSMATCH_PCS_2_SB

PCS Exceptions list:
