Problem

Users running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 may open the DUO mobile app and encounter Duo Push requests and other elements within the Duo Mobile app displayed in a language different from their configured default setting, usually German. The user’s language settings have no relevance to the issue. This issue is specific to iPhones and iPads on iOS 15 or iPadOS 15.

Root Cause

This problem is caused by a software bug in Apple's iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 operating systems.

Solution

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Update the device to a newer OS version:

    • If the affected device supports newer software, update to iOS 16 (or iPadOS 16) or later. This resolves the language discrepancy issue.

  2. Upgrade the device if updates are unavailable:

    • If the affected device cannot run newer iOS or iPadOS versions, consider upgrading to a newer device to eliminate the problem.

  3. Use alternative authentication methods:

    • As an alternative, users can switch to other supported Duo authentication methods instead of Duo Mobile.

  4. Use the app in German or other presenting language

    • Use the familiar colours, symbols, and button locations to accept/deny pushes and otherwise use the app.

By addressing this bug through a software update or device upgrade, users can restore consistent language settings within Duo Mobile.
