Migrating from Mailservices to Connect

Accessing the Outlook Web App (OWA)

Much like myWaterloo (Nexus), the Outlook Web App (OWA) is an online portal for accessing your email inbox. Emails will no longer be delivered to myWaterloo, but will instead appear in the OWA. 

To log in, go to this website: connect.uwaterloo.ca and enter your 8-character username (e.g. j25rober) and password.

Address book in SquirrelMail

If you have an address book in SquirrelMail that you will need imported into Exchange, please submit a Request Ticket (request@uwaterloo.capre-migration to request your SquirrelMail/mailservices address book be exported to text format. Following the migration, your IT support staff can assist you with importing the information into Outlook/Exchange.

Creating mail filters and rules

Notes:

  • Forwards and rules cannot be migrated. They need to be recreated. 

  • The '+' operator can not be used for forwarding rules in Connect.

To create mail filters and rules, log in to the Outlook Web App:

  1. Click the Settings icon at the top right

  2. Click Options

  3. In the left pane, click Inbox and sweep rules

    1. This will display all inbox rules (if any), and allow you to add new ones

    2. To add a new rule, click the + button. 

    3. Once finished, click Save at the top. 

Proofpoint

Proofpoint Protection Server (PPS) is an email security service implemented by IST for Connect users. It provides an additional layer of protection for email coming into our systems from off-campus, with improved blocking of spam, phishing, and malware email.
