Log in to Accuro and navigate to the Patient.
The prescription module is integrated into Accuro EMR and can be accessed in several ways:
EMR → Encounter Notes → Active Medications → Green + for New / Yellow star to prescribe from favorites / Pencil to renew or edit.
EMR → Medications Tab → New Prescription
EMR → Encounter Notes → from within a clinical note → below the black line → Active Medications
Shortcut Buttons
Quick New Patient Actions – CTRL F10 or Edit RX quick button.
No matter how you access the module, the steps are the same and start with drug search.
Medication Search
In the medication search window you can search by drug name or by classification – eg. contraceptive.
Type in the portion of the medication name and press enter or the magnifying glass.
List of medications matching your search will display.
If med is not found – check your spelling, alternative names, or simplify your search.
You can also check the show expired box in the lower portion of the med search window.
The medication you are looking for may have been expired by Health Canada and is no longer considered Active.
Click once on the medication name to select it.
This will load the add prescription window where details are entered.
Prescription Details
Once a medication is selected, Accuro will display the medication, strength, generic name and DIN #. There are several required fields you must complete.
Drug Use
Select from the dropdown:
ACUTE
CONTINUOUS CHRONIC
ONE TIME
PRN LONG TERM OR PRN SHORT TERM
Dosage and Options
Press the green plus to bring up the dosing detail window.
Enter the number of tablets.
eg. 1.
The second number is only used if prescribing a range of pills.
eg. take-12 tabs otherwise leave as zero.
Click the drop down to select frequency.
eg. BID or q 4 hours, enter duration in days, weeks or months.
Based on the details entered, Accuro will calculate the quantity for you (you can edit this number).
Refills
Can be added below quantity.
SIG Instructions
Allows you to enter additional information or instructions.
Anything added here will print on the prescription.
Comments are only for internal notes.
Add Additional Medications
Press the green plus on the left side of the RX window before pressing OK.
This will bring up the search window and repeat starting at step 1.
The second icon – blue paper – will print up the patients medical list and allow you to renew additional medications.
Red X will remove medication from the list.
Allergies display in the lower left corner.
Interaction warnings also appear here.
Pop-up warning message will appear before finalizing prescription.
Generate the Prescription
Press OK to complete the prescription.
Accuro will display a preview so that you can review before finalizing.
If you need to make a change press BACK to get back to the Rx details.
Press:
Print to print out the prescription.
Fax to fax directly to the pharmacy.
Close to add the medication to the patient chart without printing or faxing.
Rx Management
Medications Tab
Right click on any medication, or hold down the ctrl key and click to select multiple medications to print / renew / discontinue.
Edit
Pencil will bring up a list of patients meds.
Right click will bring up the following options.
To change multiple meds, CRTL + Click to select.
Varying Dose
Click the green plus again to vary the dosage over the course of the medication.
Eg. where a patient may need to be weaned off a drug such as steroids.
Click the Add button in the Dosages & Options section again.
Select if drug you are adding is to be concurrent or not.
The prompt is to select either Non-concurrent (THEN) or Concurrent (AND).
Click OK.
