Selection Process

Metal extrusions are able to handle large weights, and their modular design makes them ideal for prototyping. There are a few factors also can be used to help decide which aluminum extrusion to purchase. These include:

  1. Select a rail width and height
    1. If a drilled hole is needed, the width and height for the extrusion will need to be greater than the hole diameter to accommodate it
    2. If the load is significant, it would be preferable to use a rail with a greater width and height so the weight is distributed more
  2. Select a length
    1. This will be dependent on the project requirements so choose accordingly
  3. Select a type
    1. For modular projects, the T-slotted profit is great and a series of fasteners and connectors can be used
