Using an existing Google Analytics account 

If you're using an existing tracking code you will need to update the URL in two places in your Google Universal Analytics account. 

  1. From Google Analytics, sign in with your Google account. 

  2. Select the Admin tab.

  3. Select the Account and Property you wish to edit from the drop-down menus. 

  4. Select Property Settings

  5. Set Default URL to https:// and update the URL path. 

  6. On the Default View drop-down menu, select All Web Site Data

  7. Select Save

  8. Return to the Admin page and select View Settings under the All Web Site Data drop-down menu. 

  9. Set Website’s URL to https and update the URL path.

  11. Return to the Admin page and select Tracking Info under the Property section. 

  12. Select Tracking Code

  13. Copy (Ctrl+C) the Tracking ID

  14. Paste the Tracking ID into your WCMS site (see how to add Google tracking ID to your site below). 

Creating a new Google Analytics account 

If you don’t have a Google Universal Analytics account set up for your site yet, you can follow the following instructions to set one up. 

  1. From Google Analytics, sign in with your Google (Gmail) account (or sign up for one). 

  2. Select Start measuring.

  3. Enter your Account name

  4. Enter your Property name

  5. Set Reporting time zone to Canada and then Toronto

  6. Set the Currency to Canadian Dollar (CAD CA$)

  7. Select Show advanced options

  8. Select Create a Universal Analytics property

  9. Enter the Website URL (everything following https://). 

  10. Select Create a Universal Analytics property only

  11. Set Industry Category to Jobs and Educations

  12. Select the Business size

  13. Select how you intend to use Google Analytics. 

  14. Select Create

  15. A prompt box will appear, change country/region to Canada

  16. Read the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement and select I Accept

  17. Select the Admin tab. 

  18. Under Property, select Tracking Info

  19. Select Tracking code

  20. Copy (Ctrl+C) the Tracking ID

  21. Paste the Tracking ID into your WCMS site. 

Adding your Tracking ID to your WCMS site 

Site owners can add a Google Analytics tracking code to their site.
