Creating a New Prescription

  1. Navigate to the EMR section in Accuro.

  2. Go into the encounter notes Switch to the Encounter Notes tab.

  3. Within the Medical History band to the left side of the window, see “Active Medications” Active Medications.

  4. To create a new prescription, select the add Add button (green plus).

Searching

Accuro provides you two options when searching for Prescriptionsprescriptions:

  • Used to search for the generic drug.

  • Double click to see the formulation or manufactured drug name.

  • Used to search based on things like ‘contraceptives’ contraceptives.

  • Double click to expand or collapse the selection and view all manufactured products in that category.

  1. Default prescription options can be set int he in the prescription window by selecting the cogwheel.

  2. Set prescription defaults per drug for:

    1. Default drug use.

    2. Default allow substitutions.

    3. Default auto-expire.

    4. Enable: Use patients' preferred pharmacy for renewals.

    5. Enable: Include pharmacy on printed prescriptions.

    6. Enable; : Include pharmacy on faxed prescriptions.

Auto Expire

  1. When auto expire is checked, prescriptions will automatically fall off the active medications be removed from the Active Medications list when the patient runs out of the drug.

  2. When auto expire is unchecked, prescriptions turn red and stay in the active medications Active Medications list until a user manually checks the expiry.

  3. For auto expire to work properly, the prescription requires the dosage section to be filled out.

  1. Always renew when possible (this eliminates duplicate therapy interactions).

  2. Select the edit Edit button in active medications(blue pencil) in Active Medications.

Favorites

  • Save multiple variations of medications for quicker prescribing (different common dosages).

  • Naming your favorites by disease name / condition may be helpful when searching.

  • Add a quick action button linked to favorite medications for more convenient prescribing.

  1. Open the favorite prescriptions Favorite Prescriptions window. With the favorite prescriptions window open, select import

  2. Select Import.

  3. Select the provider you want to import favorites from using the dropdown.

  4. Then, choose Choose which specific favorites to import and click OK, or you can select import all Import All.

External Medications

  1. Can be added with details or without.

  2. You can save external medication entries as favorites.

    1. Click the gold star when adding an external medication.

Medications

  1. To view all current, recently active and historic medications navigate to the EMR > medications area and switch to the Medications tab.

  2. Right-click on a medication to:

    1. Reprint

    2. Edit SIG

    3. Change Pharmacy Instructions

    4. Check Expiry

    5. Print Prescription Summary

User Preferences

  1. Go to: Accuro Start Menu > File > User Preferences > Display > EMR Workflow.

  2. Some user specific settings that can be enabled are:

    1. Checking for early prescription renewals.

    2. Default prescription allow substitutions.

    3. include prescriptions and allergies in VC search.

    4. Show eye option for prescription dosages.

    5. View warnings when applying preferred managements.

    6. Include pharmacy on printed or faxed prescriptions. Pharmacy can be set on patient demographics as default.

Preferred Drug Interaction Management

  1. Go to Accuro Start Menu > Tools > Preferred Prescription Managements.

  1. You can choose to eliminate Drug to Drug interaction Interactions management altogether or simply lesson the frequency of the warnings.

  2. You can also remove low dosage alerts completely by deselecting the checkbox.

  • Can view all managements that have been saved.

  • By default, only applicable for 6 months.

    • Review when about to expire (Accuro warns you).
