The platform authenticator method involves your computer or an external device for authentication.

By enrolling in a platform authenticator, you must be using your device with the platform authenticator or you will not be able to authenticate.

Warning: It is recommended you add another 2FA method besides the platform authenticator, so you do not get locked out and are unable to access your account.

You can enroll in a platform authenticator via

Enrolling

  1. Visit Device management

  2. Authenticate with your 8-character username @uwaterloo.ca (e.g. j25rober@uwaterloo.ca) and password

  3. Select Add a device

  2. For laptop device or Google Password Manager method, select Windows Hello. For iCloud Keychain or U2F token (security key) option, select Security Key.
