Section 2: Acquisition

The Acquisition section of the Computer Asset Lifecycle Management System (CALMS) is where assets have been received and are then considered acquired. The following are the steps for how to organize the asset once it has been received.

Adding a new asset to CALMS

There are two ways to add a new asset:

  1. Click the “Assets” drop-down menu at the top and select New Asset 

  2. Click the New Asset shortcut button:

  1. The asset number will generate automatically and should only be entered manually for assets that do not already exist in the system.

  2. Enter the name of the brand/model of the asset you are creating (ex. MacBook Pro 13’’). 

  3. Enter the category name by using the drop-down menu (ex. Laptop). 

  4. Enter the status as purchased 

  5. Click Create Asset to be taken to another window with more fields available.

  6. Once all the information pertaining to that purchase is filled out, click Update:

List Assets

When you click on “List Assets,” you will see a number of identifications associated with an asset (see picture below for example). Below are the explanations of what each of them are used for.
