Before you install an email certificate

Make sure you request and download your S/MIME certificate

Add the Certificate to the Mail app

  1. In your email app, go to Settings.
  2. Select your email account.
  3. Scroll down and tap Security Options.
  4. Choose Email Signing Certificate.
  5. Typically the certificate (which you obtained by sending via email) will display. Tap Allow.
  6. Select Sign all outgoing messages.
  7. Tap Done and your certificate should be added.

How to install an email certificate

  1. On your Android device, click on the Settings app. 

  2. Click on 'Security & location'.

  3. Scroll down and click on 'Advanced' to expand the Advanced settings options.

  4. Click on 'Encryption & credentials'.

  5. Click on 'Install from SD card'. Navigate to where your certificate is downloaded and select the certificate.

  6. Enter your certificate password and click 'OK'.

  7. Rename your certificate if desired and click 'OK'. Your certificate has now been installed.

  8. In your email app (e.g. Outlook), go to Settings > Security to enable S/MIME. Click the toggle to enable S/MIME. In the pop-up, click 'OK'.

  9. To encrypt your messages, click on the ellipses in new message/reply and select 'Sign and Encrypt'.
